Objectives and Tactics

A. Align all Student Affairs co-curricular and student employment opportunities with the UA’s career-ready skills.

  • Develop consistent divisional language, educational opportunities, and resources for staff and students for the application of the UA's career-ready skills.
    • Adopted Career Readiness Inventory as a pre & post career-ready skill development reflection and evaluation.
  • Align student co-curricular role descriptions, advising, and performance evaluations with the UA's career-ready skills.
    • Developed the UA’s career-ready skills, using the NACE Career Readiness Competencies Framework.
  • Align all student employee job descriptions, and supervision and evaluation of student employees, with the UA's career-ready skills.
    • Crafted resources to help incorporate Career-Ready Skills into programming, classes, job descriptions, and evaluations/feedback.
  • Divisionally adopt a career readiness badge that students can earn by practicing and developing the UA's career-ready skills through their engagement with curricular and co-curricular campus activities.
    • Promoted a UA Career-Ready Badge that students can earn by practicing and developing the UA’s Career-Ready Skills through their engagement with curricular and co-curricular campus activities.

 

B. Integrate post-graduation planning conversations into Student Affairs co-curricular, student employment, and student service experiences.

  • Embed post-graduation planning conversations in staff meetings, leadership retreats, and 1:1 mentorship conversations with students seeking services, mentorship, resources, counsel, etc. .
    • Promoted a UA Career-Ready Badge that students can earn by practicing and developing the UA’s Career-Ready Skills through their engagement with curricular and co-curricular campus activities.
  • Develop resources that help students connect their campus involvement, engagement, use of services and resources, and employment experiences with post-graduation goals.
    • Developed a staff & student leader UA Career-Ready Skills Facilitation Guide to introduce and discuss the transferability of the UA Career-Ready Skills, make connections between their current and potential involvement with the Skills, and learn about resources and opportunities for further skill development.
  • Nurture an engagement community for supervisors of on-campus student employees to provide best practices for recruitment & onboarding and mentorship & supervision to create a meaningful employment experience.

C. Equip students with the skills to articulate the value of their co-curricular engagement and student employment experience.

  • Develop and launch a communication campaign that grows awareness of the value of professional development and professional development opportunities, including high-impact practices, for students.
